What is a prepaid funeral plan?
A prepaid funeral plan is a contract intended to provide specified funeral services in the future. The exact services, exclusions, payment terms and cancellation rights depend on the plan.
Funeral plans are FCA regulated
The Financial Conduct Authority regulates prepaid funeral plan providers and intermediaries. If a business is involved in selling prepaid funeral plans, including certain lead generation activities, it generally needs to be directly authorised or act as an appointed representative of an authorised principal.
Before buying a plan
- Check the firm on the FCA Firm Checker or Financial Services Register.
- Read exactly what is and is not included.
- Check what happens if you move home.
- Understand cancellation and instalment terms.
- Check how your family would make a claim or activate the plan.
- Consider whether simply recording your wishes is enough for now if you do not want to buy anything.
